Family

The Bible begins in the Garden of Eden with marriage and ends in Revelation with the wedding feast of Christ and His bride, the Church.

The Lord has woven the theme of marriage throughout Scripture. Since the Bible makes it clear that marriage is very important to God, it is also important here at Germantown Baptist Church.

We are committed to building stronger marriages and families so that Christians are able to experience a glimpse of the loving relationship Christ desires to have with them and so that unbelievers have an idea of the kind of love Christ offers.

Special Programs and Classes

Our focus on marriages and families permeates the ongoing programming of the church. At the same time, there are a few special elements of GBC's Family Life Ministry:

  • Marriage Foundations

So you find yourself engaged and wondering, "What's next?" Many of us spend so much time preparing for the wedding day that we forget to prepare adequately for a marriage that lasts a lifetime.

"Marriage Foundations," a free six-hour course for those engaged or considering engagement, will help prepare you for a fulfilling, life-long, God-honoring marriage. It even meets the requirements for pre-marital counseling in a classroom setting, qualifying couples for a $60 discount on their Tennessee marriage license if they get married within one year.

    What Will We Talk About?

One of the fundamental components of any marriage is intimacy: to fully know and to be fully known. In "Marriage Foundations," Josh Creason, Ph.D., will focus on building these three facets of intimacy:

    Spiritual Intimacy

    • Biblical Foundations of Marriage
    • The Marriage Covenant
    • "I'm in Repair" - The Sanctifying Marriage
    • Biblical Roles in Marriage

    Relational Intimacy

    • Conflict: An Opportunity for Intimacy
    • Forgive and Forget?
    • Celebrating Differences
    • Money Matters

    Physical Intimacy

  • MY GBC FAMILY

My GBC Family offers a Family Worship Guide, a helpful tool to use during personal and family worship times.

Worship is not only an integral part of every corporate gathering of the Body of Christ, but it is also a vital part of spiritual stewardship for the individual believer and for the Christian home.

Our goal is to produce multi-generational faithfulness. Therefore, helping individual believers grow in their understanding of personal worship and helping families discover the beauty of worship in the home assists parents in modeling faithfulness to Christ and building a legacy of faithfulness through their families.

This worship guide is built off of several components including a scripture passage to read, a brief devotional thought, a guide for prayer, and a suggested song to sing.
